Coaching in the church and other faith-based non-profit organizations has been based on a model developed in the business community in the 1980s and 90s. That coaching model focused on enriching content - what do you know - and enhancing competence - how well can you perform. Missing from this model was care for the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the person being coached - the very thing that is a key component of a faith-based service to people. Care-Full Coaching is committed to including care of persons along with content enrichment and competence enhancement in a more holistic approach to coaching leaders of faith-based non-profit organizations. We care about you, not just what you do. Assistance for leaders and organizations is provided through coaching, consulting, and training.
As a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF), Dr. Ed Cook supports the ICF Philosophy of Coaching:
The International Coach Federation adheres to a form of coaching that honors the client as the expert in his/her life and work and believes that every client is creative, resourceful, and whole. Standing on this foundation, the coach's responsibility is to:
- Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve
- Encourage client self-discovery
- Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
- Hold the client responsible and accountable
